10 reviews for EcoTank ET-2860 A4 Multifunction Wi-Fi Ink Tank Printer, With Up To 3 Years Of Ink Included

Mr. Michael P. Windiate

Cost saving printing
Having got tried of paying out high prices for ink cartridges i decided to invest in a tank printer, I chose this one as I knew several people who had similar models and spoke well of them. The printer came well packed and included a basic start guide, 4 ink bottles and a mains leadSet up was straight forward, you download a app to your phone or tablet and this walks you through the whole process including adding a PC to the systemPrint quality seems very good and overall I am happy with the results and would recommend the unit

Great home printer
I’ve been using this printer for a while now, and I’m really happy with the performance. Previously, I had one that used cartridges, but the biggest advantage of this model is that you don’t need cartridges at all, you can refill the ink yourself, which saves a lot of money. It also comes with ink bottles included in the box, which is a nice bonus. The print quality is great for home use, and it’s perfect for printing all the school materials my child needs. Definitely worth it!

Good Printer
Easy to setup and print quality is good. Was particularly impressed with my photo prints. Only 4 stars though as whilst setup was easy, when I came to print my first few pages all I got was blank pages. Having performed several head cleans with no success and almost resigning myself in having to return it I came across a post that suggested doing a power clean which sorted it and all is now good. It would seem the initial ink charging process may not have charged the inks fully

Nothing but headaches and issues
UPDATE: Product is still awful. If you want a terrible printer that does not work, take your chances with this one, but it’s just too expensive to gamble with. I am reluctantly donating my £200 printer to a local charity shop after only four months and buying a Brother.UPDATE II: I bought a Brother DCP-T780DW and thought it would be worthwhile contrasting the two products. My new printer is also a Tank printer with a scanner, but this one also has Apple AirPrint and can print in duplex (two sided) automatically. Firstly the Brother has a much more solid feel where the Epson felt flimsy and plasticky. The scanner bed is much better designed and it has a small but functional screen on the front. Setup was easy. While I did get some ink on my fingers while filling the tanks (which was admittedly easier on the Epson), that is likely due to user error. Their app stepped me through connecting to WiFi, which was straightforward once you figure it out (you have to connect your phone to a temporary network set up by the printer to enter your home Wi-Fi settings). From there, a quick calibration process and everything is up and running. With the Epson, you needed their app to print anything from a mobile device, and their app is terrible. From a mac, you have to know how to find and connect to their printer using an IP address, which not everyone will know how to do. With the Brother, using AirPrint, the printer just shows up on any Apple device on the same network. Magic. Finally prints are fast and clear. I didn’t time the Epson, but it seems the Brother has less whirring and buzzing before each printout, which makes it seem faster. The black level is a touch grey (rather than deep black), but not unpleasantly so, but other than that, the print quality is everything I need. The TL/DR is with the Epson EcoTank, you are taking a potentially expensive risk. For me, it was a £150 lesson and I’ll never buy one of their products again.ORIGINAL REVIEWI needed a color printer, so I reluctantly moved on from my black-and-white HP laser printer. That printer worked when you needed it. It was accessible from every device in my home through Apple’s Air Print, and did exactly what you needed it to do when you needed it. It just worked.I chose the Epson because the ecoTanks received good reviews, and to be fair, they are the best feature of the printer. The tanks are large, easy to fill, and appear to deliver decent color printouts, exactly what I would need. If the printer ever worked. Which it does not.The problem isn’t mechanical; it is software-related, so 100% addressable by Epson if they cared to build a usable product.I have no idea why they would choose not to use Apple AirPrint, or a network print protocol that is recognizeable by the devices on my network. They’ve chosen instead to force me to print through their app, which would be okay if it worked. But it does not.The app is one of the worst I’ve ever used, considering it’s a product costing over £10. It is clunky, slow, written in poorly translated English, and incredibly hard to use. It takes about 20-30 minutes, at the absolute fastest, to get your printer configured and connected to Wi-Fi. This would be kinda okay if the wifi worked. But it does not.The printer loses connection to the Wi-Fi, despite being NEXT TO THE ROUTER. When it does connect, simple printouts (750k images) take 20 minutes to print, and they often fail before completion. Reconnecting to the wifi using their app takes another 10-20 minutes, and is a ludicrously long and convoluted process. For those who manage to get their printer to connect reliably, I’m sure it is a decent printer. However, if you’re like me, it is an expensive paperweight.

Pretty good all round printer with unkown extras on the Epson site.
We decided to buy an ink tank printer as we’d already wasted far too much money on cartridges. This one was replacing a HP Envy 6032e.I didn’t really consider going for a HP ink tank printer as I’ve had 4 HP WiFi printers over the years and all of them have suffered with WiFi issues (occasionally just refuse to print over WiFi and require driver re-installs and other time wasting fixes (which my HP accredited tech support Son has had to deal with). My Granddaughter has an Epson WF printer she uses for working from home and she told me it’s been faultless and advised me to go with Epson. At the time of purchase the ET-2860 was £180 (annoyingly, 2 days after delivery there was a voucher for £10 off that price).Installation via USB is very easy, pretty much plug and play.Installation over WiFi on a Windows PC was a little bit of a faff but nothing majorly difficult. The PC was connected to the router via a physical network cable, while trying to install the printer the software kept saying it couldn’t detect the printer. The suggestions to fix it were a bit sparse. As the PC also has WiFi, I decided to disconnect the network cable and try again with the PC connected via WiFi.Problem fixed, the software now detected the printer and installed it without any other issues.Once done, changing all the printer settings etc was no different to pretty much all other printers.Filling the ink tanks is quick and simple. The one thing to watch out for is the fact the attachments on all the bottles is the same so you can accidentally put the wrong colour inks in the tanks, just make sure you double check you’re putting it in the right tank and you’ll be fine.Print quality is pretty good, text and diagrams etc are sharp. Photo’s are pretty good but it wouldn’t match up to a printer aimed at high quality photo printing.I printed a photo on some 240gsm semi-glossy paper, the printer had no trouble with the papers weight (it’s rated for up to 300gsm) and the printed image was rather good.Colours weren’t quite a match for what was on the screen (not as vibrant) but that was more likely to do with my monitors colour settings. Even so, the photo still looked quite nice.I’ve no doubt some image editing would improve the colours of the printed photo. The only part of the photo that didn’t look very good were scenes with blocks of dark gradients (like a large body of water on a dull day). It’s didn’t look bad and from from more than a foot away you probably wouldn’t even notice. The scanner is OK, much like the scanner on any other printer these days. Easily good enough for copying documents and photo’s with good accuracy.Like other scanners, set the dpi to the higher settings and it will take a quite while. After the printer was installed I was looking at the features etc, Epson have 2 different sections on their site for templates.I was surpised at how many they had and how varied they were. All sorts of craft projects, birthday/etc cards, photo frames, wrapping papers (obviously for small items with this printer seeing as it’s A4).I’m going to have lots of fun with that as I do like making my own cards and things. If HP have anything like that they don’t go out of their way to make it easy to find.Overall I’m very happy with the printer. The only things it lacks which you would expect on printers in this price range is a paper tray (which I prefer to rear tray feeding) and automatic duplex.I’m not taking away any stars for those as I knew that before buying.I did consider the ET-2850 as it does have auto-duplex but it was £70 more and I don’t need it enough to warrant the the extra cost (the 2850 also still has rear loading paper, if it also had a proper tray I may have bought it – hope you’re listening Epson, many people prefer a tray). My £70 HP 6032e that this replaced had both auto-duplex and a proper paper tray, the only other real different between the HP and this Epson is the ink takes so it is a large expense for a printer that effectively has less features.Over time the Epson will of course cost less as replacing the inks is massively cheaper (I did have a HP Instant Ink subsription but paying per page rather than how much ink you use only works out worthwhile if you’re covering the pages in ink, which I don’t often do – especially as we print a lot of A6 postage labels).Knowing the future ink cost savings I think this is a worthwhile investment. My Son wants to do sublimation printer and apparenty Epson EcoTank printers are the best value for that too.

Papers always get stuck on the back every time I send a print, and I have to reload it two to three times until it prints.
