Crucial External SSD – working perfectly
I always like to have more data storage than I need and so when I recently bought a new iMac (from Amazon) I decided to add an external drive to ensure I had the kind of storage I’m used to.After doing some research online, and having heard of and used the Crucial brand in the past, I decided this model would be the one for me – and it came in blue, to match my iMac (these little details are important). It arrived next day and was packaged in a tiny box. Disclaimer – I had never seen an SSD external before, all my others are standard hard drives, and I was totally surprised by how small this model was. Believing in the Crucial brand, I plugged it into my iMac and immediately it was recognised and ready to work. The speed of data transfer computer to SSD and SSD to computer is incredible. It took under 1 seconds to copy a file containing a 2.5 hour film! I’m not normally over-fussed about data transfer speeds, I do have patiene, but it was nice to know this Crucial SSD could more than out-perform any of my older (and very much larger) external HDDs.This SSD was bought to remain plugged into my computer but with it being so small and light there would be no problem at all for people who like to carry their data around with them or use the drive on different computers.A tiny blue box with 1 TB of storage at (what I feel is) a bargain price, I can certainly recommend this model. I knew it came highly recommended by professional trade reviewers but after using it I would certainly suggest anyone looking for a neat, small and very fast external to be taking a close look. One of the easiest 5 star ratings I have given on any product I’ve bought from Amazon. I’m almost tempted to buy two more for my other two computers and put my old HDDs into retirement.
Fantastic 8TB SSD
I couldn’t believe how small this device is it’s tiny but it’s very fast it’s expensive but I’ve got 12 years of digital downloads and my master 4TB HDD only has a few hundred GB left so I had to move up and an SSD seemed a better option, these SSD’S come in 4, 6, & 8TB’S they come formatted to EXFAT but it’s easy to reformat it to NTFS a better option for windows, EXFAT is the better option for mac, this little device is much faster than my HDD the transfer rate is extremely fast on average it takes me 4 hours to transfer 800 digital film files from one HDD to another HDD, but on transferring the same files to my new SSD it only took one hour and the device didn’t get as hot as my HDD, it comes with a short 5 inch lead USB C to USB C so i suggest that if your going to use this device for films that you buy a USB to USB C data lead if you don’t won’t be able to use it with your TV, if you want to reformat this device to NTSC all you have to do is connect it to your laptop then close the window, open your documents and click on this PC then choose the SSD drive, right click and then click on format it’s fast so don’t worry then click were it says EXFAT and the drop down box will show you both EXFAT and NTFS just click on NTFS and your done your drive is now formatted to NTFS and you can now transfer your files, i would say that if you have a lot of files to transfer you do them in blocks and don’t try to transfer 3.5 TB of data all at once the biggest file I transferred was 750GB which took an hour and periodically defragment your drive.
Expensive, but worth it.
I am about 3/5 the way through digitising my immense music collection. Will then be throwing away a whole cabinet full of cds and dvds, to be replace by something the size of a box of matches. Amazing. And there will still be room to store a back-up image of my laptop and this missus’ laptop too, I reckon.
Well done Crucial. …I will be purchasing another soon 🙂
This a data storage – AND A HALF! :-)Very light and massive storage. So far so good – zero problems experienced with it.I followed the advice of another reviewer who recommended changing the file system from FAT32 NTFS. Reformating took about a day but it was worth it in the end. The FAT32 coming of the production line multiple type of devices can use the Cruxial x10. But all my devices run on Windows so NTFS is perfect for me.There are other technical differences between the two file systems so if you are not competent with tech then leave well alone. Your x10 will work fine just out box for all your needs. One tip I can pass on the from bitter experience years ago when first starting use flash drives is to never just hastily plug out the drive. With flash drives you have ‘EJECT’ first before unplugging the device. Otherwise you could corrupt the drive and end up losing all your hardwork and jpg and mp4 files ‘in a flash’ (get the pun) 🙂 The x10 and all portable SSD drives are more sturdy, but they are ‘still’ flash drives. Therefore, what I do is always makes ure the laptop is or pc is OFF ‘BEFORE’ I connect or disconnect the any portable SSD drive. As for funtionality – no problem with copying and moving files to/from the laptop/pc to the x10 – especially, if you laptop/pc is equipped with latest high speed USB drives.Would I recommend you buy the Crucial X10 SSD data storage device? Absolutely – 110% YES! …Enjoy
Small and neat size.
Ideal for saving my photos. Small and neat size.
Expensive, but…
Excellent, worth the high price. So much storage in a tiny, tiny form. Very fast too.
2TB external portable SSD
Fast, reliable, with up to 2100MB/s transfer speeds, making file transfers quick and easy.It connects via USB-C and works well with laptops, desktops, and even some tablets.Nice design and finish. At £159.99 (down from £179.99), it is good value for the performance.
Klein compact ideaal en snel.
Petit, rapide, fait très bien le travail
Not good in speed
This a a great product. Price good at times. So small. Due to the Apple limitation of not fully appreciating USB 3.2 GEN 2 X 2 drives its only runs at around 900MBS. I transfered a large 711GB file and it ran at 1050MBs. It did get quite hot and stayed hot long after the transfer. Previous X10 did not get so hot.
excellent … gets a bit slow once its internal buffer is full (so I would not count on the indicated speeds under all circumstances), but in general does the job wellvery handy (extremely small !)
