They appreciate its fast write speed, functionality, and quality, with one customer noting it works well with Apple devices. The drive is easy to set up, and one customer mentions it’s ideal for Mac Time Machine backups. Compact Powerhouse – Perfect for Mac Time Machine Backups
As a long-time Mac user, I’m always on the lookout for compact, high-performance storage solutions that don’t compromise on reliability. The Crucial X10 Pro 6TB SSD ticks every box—and then some.Size & Design:The first thing that struck me is just how small this drive is. It’s genuinely pocket-sized—roughly the size of a stack of credit cards—but feels solidly built with a premium aluminium shell. It doesn’t get hot even after long transfers, and the textured surface offers excellent grip when handling it on the go.Performance:Using the USB-C connection with my MacBook Pro (M3), it performs flawlessly. I read it can get close to 2,000MB/s – all I know is that as a time machine device it is plenty fast enough. For a portable SSD of this size, that’s impressive.Time Machine Compatibility:I use this as my dedicated Time Machine backup drive. Setup was seamless—macOS recognised it instantly, and backups run smoothly in the background with no interruptions. The 6TB capacity means I can retain months of backups without worrying about space.Portability:It’s small enough to live in my laptop bag permanently. Compared to older HDDs I’ve used for Time Machine, this is a total game changer in both speed and size. There’s no noise, no spin-up delays—just instant access.Other Notes:Comes with a short, high-quality USB-C cable.Backwards compatible with USB-A (adapter not included).IP55-rated for dust and water resistance, which is a bonus if you travel frequently.Verdict:The Crucial X10 Pro 6TB is ideal for creatives, professionals, or anyone needing fast, portable storage. Its combination of compact size, high capacity, and solid performance makes it a top-tier choice. If you’re a Mac user looking for a reliable Time Machine backup drive that won’t take up desk space, this is it.
Crucial External SSD – working perfectly
I always like to have more data storage than I need and so when I recently bought a new iMac (from Amazon) I decided to add an external drive to ensure I had the kind of storage I’m used to.After doing some research online, and having heard of and used the Crucial brand in the past, I decided this model would be the one for me – and it came in blue, to match my iMac (these little details are important). It arrived next day and was packaged in a tiny box. Disclaimer – I had never seen an SSD external before, all my others are standard hard drives, and I was totally surprised by how small this model was. Believing in the Crucial brand, I plugged it into my iMac and immediately it was recognised and ready to work. The speed of data transfer computer to SSD and SSD to computer is incredible. It took under 1 seconds to copy a file containing a 2.5 hour film! I’m not normally over-fussed about data transfer speeds, I do have patiene, but it was nice to know this Crucial SSD could more than out-perform any of my older (and very much larger) external HDDs.This SSD was bought to remain plugged into my computer but with it being so small and light there would be no problem at all for people who like to carry their data around with them or use the drive on different computers.A tiny blue box with 1 TB of storage at (what I feel is) a bargain price, I can certainly recommend this model. I knew it came highly recommended by professional trade reviewers but after using it I would certainly suggest anyone looking for a neat, small and very fast external to be taking a close look. One of the easiest 5 star ratings I have given on any product I’ve bought from Amazon. I’m almost tempted to buy two more for my other two computers and put my old HDDs into retirement.
Really impressed
Unbelievably compact for such a huge capacity SSD. Has been faultless so far. Nice and quick. I’d certainly buy again and hopefully the prices will continue to come down as most tech does over time.
Expensive, but…
Excellent, worth the high price. So much storage in a tiny, tiny form. Very fast too.
4Tb SSD card.
Easy to set up & use no issues so far.
Fantastic 8TB SSD
I couldn’t believe how small this device is it’s tiny but it’s very fast it’s expensive but I’ve got 12 years of digital downloads and my master 4TB HDD only has a few hundred GB left so I had to move up and an SSD seemed a better option, these SSD’S come in 4, 6, & 8TB’S they come formatted to EXFAT but it’s easy to reformat it to NTFS a better option for windows, EXFAT is the better option for mac, this little device is much faster than my HDD the transfer rate is extremely fast on average it takes me 4 hours to transfer 800 digital film files from one HDD to another HDD, but on transferring the same files to my new SSD it only took one hour and the device didn’t get as hot as my HDD, it comes with a short 5 inch lead USB C to USB C so i suggest that if your going to use this device for films that you buy a USB to USB C data lead if you don’t won’t be able to use it with your TV, if you want to reformat this device to NTSC all you have to do is connect it to your laptop then close the window, open your documents and click on this PC then choose the SSD drive, right click and then click on format it’s fast so don’t worry then click were it says EXFAT and the drop down box will show you both EXFAT and NTFS just click on NTFS and your done your drive is now formatted to NTFS and you can now transfer your files, i would say that if you have a lot of files to transfer you do them in blocks and don’t try to transfer 3.5 TB of data all at once the biggest file I transferred was 750GB which took an hour and periodically defragment your drive.
