Customers say
Customers find the capture card to be of great quality and easy to set up, with a handy button that’s very convenient for recording. Moreover, they appreciate its recording capabilities, with one customer noting it can record Skype conversations, and its streaming features, with another mentioning it can stream at 1680×1050 resolution. However, the functionality receives mixed feedback – while some say it works like a charm, others report it stops working or doesn’t work with their monitor. Additionally, the bitrate performance is mixed, with some enjoying glorious 1080p at 30FPS while others experience choppy streams, and opinions on value are divided between those who find it worth the price and those who consider it a waste of money.

Brilliant little thing.
I was skeptical after reading some bad reviews about this, however that skepticism was soon removed as soon as I put it into my computer, this thing is tiny, takes up no room and is very very easy to set up. the performance is outstanding for the price. it is full 1080p HD and does not affect my in-game fps while i am streaming or recording.HOWEVER – there are issues with the rec-central software when it comes to streaming, do not use it or you will experience the blue screen of death more often than not aswell as choppy streams and fps loss.
Great, but has a few minor downsides
First of all, I’d just like to say that all round, this card is fantastic! There is no other way to put it. The File sizes are tiny compared to that of the competition, they are in glorious 1080p at 30FPS, and the software is just fantastic, as is the streaming abilities and the ease of switching between multiple platforms. Also, THE BUTTON!!!However, the downsides to this card are as follows:- Needs to be plugged into a PC via PCIe to work, laptop = No worky worky!- Software can crash at times, rare however- No timeshift feature unlike the competition- Cannot record PS3 unlike competitionDespite that, I’d highly recommend this card over the competition despite a couple of features the Avermedia live Gamer HD misses out on.If the above doesn’t bother you, GET THIS RIGHT NOW!!!EDIT: So, the first part of this review was done about 2 weeks after I purchased the capture card. I’m now editing it 7 months later to fill in on other details and things i’ve discovered after long term use;So Firstly, this card is good, but I have certainly had second thoughts about it. There are some additional downsides to this card which you might not discover until later on (Like me):- The Sound card/ Sound Passthrough is just awful. Terrible quality and way too quiet. There may be ways around it as others don’t seem to have this problem. I’m not sure what exactly though, maybe a GPU problem since I use AMD? I’ve tried replacing the cable but that hasn’t helped. I’ll update if i find a working solution.- The Bitrate isn’t as excellent as it makes out. It says 1080p and whilst that is true, it just scrapes that mark- The software can be annoying at times (crashing on a fairly common basis, not working with twitch half the time)However, one thing to note is that I bought this capture card when they were still using RECentral 1.0. I downloaded the update recently and it does certainly improve the downsides I listed to a degree but doesn’t fully solve every problem i’ve had with it.IMPORTANT: If you’re planning to record just for Xbox, do not let this throw you off the purchase. This card works absolutely perfectly for consoles! All the problems I have been having are exclusive to PC.In conclusion, after 7 months, I still think it’s a good card but like every card, it could do with some improvements and may not work as well with specific computers.
Terrible product
This card for some reason will not work with my monitor. The card will constantly disconnect and reconnect. My monitor is not old. It runs at 1920×1080 @ 60hz. So that should not be a problem but for some reason it is.The card would work fine on my TV at the resolution mentioned before but it’s not ideal for my purposes.2 days later, The card now no longer works with my TV. It cannot register that the TV can run at 60hz and because of that, My TV no longer works with the card. And within those two days, The HDMI to DVI add on stopped working. So within 3 days, This card managed to die out and the worst part is, I was never able to test the cards recording quality.Support is useless and their forums have been down for weeks now. So getting help is practically impossible.Wasted my time and money on this product.
For YouTubers and Broadcasters out there.
Hello.I am working for The Game Station as a gamer over at YouTube.I have tried many products in my life that capture Xbox and PS3 etc. Also been streaming.Same comes to PC.I have to say that this product is just pure epic in all regards. Everything from the packaging, the included things to the overall quality of the Streams and record my PC gameplay.(bye bye Fraps)The handy Software RECentral is pure genius. It has everything a broadcaster or just someone who like to record gameplay needs. There is a option that will set everything up for you if you do not know all there is to know about recording or broadcasting, that option is called “newbie” and it’s pretty much a plug and play feature.Than for more advance people there is options for you as well. All fancy things we need in ONE little handsome card.Anyone that does ANYTHING I have said until now I only have one thing to say to you. BUY IT! It’s worth every penny.//Morfar
Should have gone for the portable one.
It’s a good capture card but on second thoughts I think I would have been better off with portable one. This one is a good card but I can’t connect it to my laptop so this still puts some stress on my computer. Whereas the portable one would have put the stress of streaming on the laptop.
Utilizo la tarjeta para capturar video de otra computadora, para llamadas con skype ademas de 3 cámaras logitech dentro del estudioLa presentación de la tarjeta es perfecta es facil de instalar y perfecta para lo que la utilizo
For anyone that wants a capture card that can easily capture 1080p for Console games and PC games this is an easy choice.I used to use Hauppage HD which was still a decent Capture device but the one I bought lacked HDMI support. More cords, more mess.Live Gamer was incredibly easy to install and start up. HDMI in from my Xbox, HDMI out to my HD TV if I want that.It easily set up well with my mic. And can capture voice and game into separate files for convenient editing. No complaints so far.
So, I purchased this so I could capture some PC Gaming with hardware H.264 encoding. This thing performs like a beast. It captures, up to 1080p at 30FPS, flawlessly with no hit to FPS at all. However, the way you hook it up to get your computer that the card installed to is a little tricky. You need 2 HDMI cables (provided), and a monitor or display device (Television) capable of 1080p or the resolution you want to record in. You need to take the HDMI out from your video card, and plug it into the HDMI in of the Live Gamer HD, then take the HDMI out of the Live Gamer HD and put it into the HDMI in of your Display Device (Television or LCD). Basically the Live Gamer HD just mirrors what your graphics card is doing and captures it in real time with RAW data. This offers massive performance over programs like Fraps or Camtasia as they use system resources while the game is running. This device isn’t limited to PC Recording in that crazy config.Out of the box, you can hook up your Xbox 360 and record beautiful 1080p video, take lovely snap shots and share them with anyone. You can live stream using Twitch, Ustream or a custom URL if you know all those settings. I did a few test streams and it ended up looking great on the other end. With the amount of settings the software has, you can easily tweak it to your hearts content and to what your current cable internet package allows you in the form of upload. Be careful if you set it too high, you will not be able to play multiplayer without severe lag. Now, onto what I hate, and that’s the movie industry. There’s this thing called HDCP or High Definition Copy Protection, the MPAA (devil) thought maybe you and me might use HD video feeds such as from our Blu Ray players, PS3, and other devices to record content that we have. The implemented this encryption in all hardware since the beginning of HDMI almost, so it’s no doubt that most everything has it on there. I’m not sure why the Xbox 360 doesn’t have this on there, maybe they opted not to spend all that damn money on licensing or they just didn’t care if people recorded their gameplay to show others and promote their product free of charge?Well, if you want to record your PS3, iPhone, iPad, Blu Ray Player, or any other device that might connect to HDMI and was made in the last decade or so.. you’re gonna have a bad time.I attached some screenshots from the software of this application and it does have HDCP restrictions. It’s not the fault of the software company, or the hardware. You can’t find a hacked software that disables HDCP, it’s a HARDWARE encryption. Without going into to many details, suffice to say, it’s some next level crap.If you do some googling, and try to find out that your PS3, MacBook, iPad, and any other devices that have HDCP can’t be bypassed without 100’s of dollars worth of equipment, it’s pooh talk. Amazon, the wonderful company they are, actually sell the best and cheapest option to bypass HDCP. The product is a Sweell 1×2 HDMI splitter, I will try to link the item in the description so you guys can order it as well. After you hook that baby up, HDCP is rendered invalid, and this hardware can really take off!10/10 would buy this again. I’m actually installing the hardware on an Intel Atom PC so I can dedicate it to recording all sorts of inputs. Because this PCI device has a hardware encoder, the only processing power you need is enough to copy to a hard drive, and of course h.264 playback.Feel free to ask any questions, you can check videos out on my youtube as well that I record with.Sewell 2 Port 1×2 Powered Hdmi Splitter V 1.3b 3D Certified-Up to 1080p
Did work good for 1080 30 frames per second
I haven’t yet used this card for streaming – just as a friendly FYI!To start off, I was using this machine in an older build since the FPS during games like Left4Dead, League of Legends, etc – would have been too high and it affects ping when using FRAPS instead of the LG-HD on the initial set-up.Proceed forward – I’m now using this LG-HD in an 3570K, Z77, EVGA 660 SC, 16GB 4*4GB, 120GB SSD machine with another AVerMedia Tuner. This is perfect for pass-through and allows the audio to flawlessly pass and be selected via the Control Panel in Windows 7 – this was a major thing for me since sometimes other devices have issues with being detected or set as the current/default device, especially on-demand. The Recording is completely flawless and smooth – so no worries there. I have not had the “red issue” where reds display as an off-color or otherwise (as some have mentioned this issue with their LG-HD on the internet). The USB button provides extreme ease of recording after launching RECentral and putting it into READY mode on default usage. Barely even uses the CPU.This card has extreme potential – EDIT: BEWARE HDCP! This will not work if the content is HDCP protected! – the unit can be used just like a TV Tuner by using full HDMI (by full I mean direct, non-adapter) from a TV or Video-Source from your TV Provider – so if you want to record your favorite shows and edit them on your harddrive – No problem!Though this unit is clearly more for the Gamer-Types, which is handy for those not wanting to invest into a $400+ Video Card to make up the difference using other software like FRAPS so the FPS can be maintained (unless using a somewhat older CPU). But if you buy this and a decent/good card – you’re still paying $400+ total.Pros:Perfect smaller size, easily installed*doesn’t block a video cards fan unit*perfect for 720+1080P recordings, easy to switch video feeds (recommend an hdmi splitter-switch if you need this).*Multiple Live Gamers! – Have more than one manage several sources if you want to be a spectator in a LAN broadcasting two competitors games, while still doing your broadcast or otherwise. AVerMedia says they are working on a multi-card app, but no immediate further comment or update on this.*Multiple ways to setup and record video & sound! – They made this card to be VERY friendly, the audio in and audio out are great for those using HDMI adapters and still need sound, which is easily selected in RECentral as an audio source. The ability to select video and audio sours separately are a perfect idea for a Tuner card for people to use in older machines until they get a newer machine (if they decide to)*For TV Users: You can use the TV from your GPU as a monitor, and use the LG-HD to take your Video Source (cable/satellite/roku or other hdmi unit) –> LG-HD IN. LG-HD OUT -> TV to currently un-used HDMI port (as your GPU will be the source you’re selecting!). A 3rd party program to view/record your LG-HD while working on whatever would likely make you very happy! So its not quiet all the time.Cons:*Sometimes depending on your machine or otherwise, you may have to reboot if you change the video source while the machine is on (though you should do this while its off, let’s be honest on that) – but a simple HDMI Splitter (if you manage to find a good one!) will do the trick if you want to switch between one to another source.*Sometimes if the monitor goes to sleep, after “Waking” the computer and thus monitor you might have to shut it off then back on and the video feed usually kicks back in (doesnt normally happen without the LG-HD, and it’ll usually say “No video source” or the likes) – might not happen for everyone and likely depends on the setup.*Card is as much as a 660SC and some 660Ti’s. But this is purely price – the card has very clear advantages
