The RAM X-Grip mount is probably the Gold Standard for motorcycle mounts to hold a phone or GPS device securely. Mine had lost a rubber cap and wasn’t as secure as before, though it still worked. Time to refresh and reload – and these caps came in 2 packets, each containing 4. Putting them on was a breeze, though I chose to persist with the three still in place and ended up using just one. Initial impressions – these caps are identical in shape, except for the missing logo on the top (see picture), and slightly harder than the original ones, which I am sure would be remedied on its own over time. What’s more, they are delivered with no instructions on how to use them, in case one is wondering. Not that they are needed, it is a straightforward slide-and-use scenario. I applied a drop of glue for added protection against flying off the claw. Given that I have 7 more in reserve, it is that much easier in my mind against loss or degradation over time.Worth it, and it rejuvenates the X-Grip.To the roads ahead ..
I’ve had my Ram-X mount for nearly 10 years, and the silicone ends (as illustrated in the attached pics) have started to wear, cracking to the point where they easily slip off the accessory. I needed some replacements and came across this option.I noticed right out of the package that these replacements were more dense/firmer than the originals. I worry that this might give them less holding power. On the upside, the opening that goes over the steel arm is slightly smaller and holds more snuggly inspiring more confidence that they will stay on. I love that there is no branding on these replacements, a characteristic of the original caps that always bothered me.I now have the replacements on and excited to see how they work over time.
These silicone tips are handy for lots of things beyond the RAM X grip mounts. They feel well made, are soft enough to provide good grip, and are durable so they should hold up to use. I ordered them for protective caps on pointed things like the interior release handle of my truck canopy, which has a little lever that scratches my head when I lean in. This little cap is going to save me repeated painful scrapes. The hole in the bottom is not large, very roughly 1/8″ by 1/16″ but it stretches a little and should still fit just fine.
Fit perfectly on my bike cell phone holder. You get 8 in a pack. That is a great buy! Made with excellent good quality rubber.
Every year or so, I have to replace the grips on my Ram X mount. Name brand from Ram mount is about $7.50 for 4. For the same price you get 8. They fit on the same way, and should last just as long.Very good cost effective alternative.
