Does the job
Very useful, works well
A good product
Works well and simple to set up.
Useful – eventually
I purchased these simply because they have a battery that is easy to insert and remove. The ‘Standby’ set that I had previously had simply stopped working and there was no way I could change whatever battery they may have had. However, I found a problem with these ‘Status 3’ Remote controls, in that for some reason when I set up one with the remote it worked fine, but moving on to the second on the other side of the room it also seemed to set up okay, but then worked the first one as well. It took some trial and error to get them to work separately. Perhaps the instructions leave something to be desired. In addition, I also have to say that the original ‘Standby’ set I had with the ‘on/off’ being coloured green-red is much clearer to see than the Status 3 with its single dark coloured buttons. That bright colouring also meant I was less likely to press the wrong button. In fact, I still have my original ‘Standby’ set upstairs as it is used less frequently. The Sockets on the Status 3 do seem rather chunkier than those on the ‘Standby’ so it seemed a tighter squeeze getting one in place behind a filing cabinet. I admit that as the last time I had had to do that was quite some time ago, my memory might be at fault. However, now that I have managed to get this set of three working and have familiarised myself with the buttons so far I’m happy with the Status 3 Remote Controllers, particularly as I know that I should be able to replace the batteries when needed.
Works well
Great
Simple to program and great operating range
We have a heat lamp / fan unit installed in our bathroom that was originally connected to mains plugs in the attic, each on a control socket to allow the lamps / fan to be individually controlled. The remote control had always been temperamental even with a fresh battery, so we finally decided to replace the remote control sockets and went with this set. These remote control sockets require programming, which is very straight forward – Plug in the first remote control socket and press the desired “On” button on the remote, then repeat for the second and third. Despite what the manual says, the remote control sockets don’t lose their memory when unplugged, during power outages, etc. They can be reprogrammed by holding the button on the socket until the LED lights, then push the new desired “On” button to change to. The remote has 4 On/ Off controls, so a fourth socket can be added and it’s also possible to programme multiple sockets to a single ON / Off number, which may be useful for turning on/off multiple lamps, Christmas light sets, etc. together. To test the range, I placed a socket in one corner of the house connected to a lamp and walked away one room at a time to see how far away it could control the lamp. To my surprise, it had no problem operating at the opposite end of our 4 bedroom bungalow! Even our centrally positioned Wi-Fi router requires extension nodes to reach the end bedrooms. For comparison, our previous remote control socket struggled to operate from directly below through the ceiling, which this new kit has no problem. The only minor issue we noticed is the remote control sockets are too wide to fit side by side with most power strips. To use all 3 on a single power strip would require a 5 or 6 outlet power strip, each plugged in alternating sockets.
Really useful
I first came across these after watching an old episode of Dragons’ Den on which a similar product (albeit different brand) was being pitched for, and as a result decided to have a quick search on Amazon. They are such a simple concept yet very useful. For me, the main use is for my house lighting. I hate the overhead lights in my living room, so I have a number of lamps dotted around the room. It can be a hassle having to switch on each of these lights individually each night when I get home, particularly as one of them is behind the TV. These sockets remove that hassle completely. All of my lamps are now plugged into these so that when I enter my living room I can switch them on at the click of a button. There are buttons for each of the sockets, but also handily a button at the bottom to switch all on or off.Since being so impressed by the impact these have had on my living room experience, I’ve also purchased some for the bedroom. I now not only use them for lighting but also for the TVs in both rooms, to save the energy that just leaving in standby mode would have otherwise wasted (the only thing I don’t use it for is the Sky+ box, which annoyingly takes about 5 minutes to start up again every time if it’s been switched off at the socket). The only minor annoyance about these is that although you get three of them in a pack, there are four switches on the remote control. Why not just sell them in packs of four? You can buy additional ones individually, but they also come with a remote control, which seems like a bit of a waste. That aside, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend these as they are great both for energy saving and convenience.
works well and good for its price
Works well
