Customers say

Customers find the M.2 SSD enclosure well-made and attractive in design, with speeds almost as fast as expected. The functionality receives mixed feedback – while it works well initially, some customers report it breaking after 6 months of use. Moreover, assembly quality is also mixed, with one customer noting it comes with everything needed, while others mention missing parts. Additionally, the enclosure receives criticism for being really small and having a screw that’s too small.

Ideal M2 SSD caddy.
Bought to house Sandisk SD8SNAT-128G M2-SSD.No problems fitting the chipset in this neat housing though I wouldn’t want to keep swapping drives as it’s a little fiddly – but I expected it to be so as M2 drives are small and care needs to be taken with the stand-off nut that makes the chipset sit correctly on the board. Having said that it’s much easier than some full size hard drive caddies. The box contained a screwdriver for the stand-off screw fitting; not supplied for the case screws.Good product.

Good solid build quality, perfect for windows to Go!
Very well made enclosure which is attractively designed and feels light but substantial enough to keep your drive well protected and it works as a windows to Go drive as well 🙂 very pleased with the purchase and it’s what you would expect from startech!

Great Product
Works well with all my M.2 drives, bought 2 in total for imaging across drives, comes with all appropriate mounting hardware/screws for inside of the case, does heat up a little but metal case sheds it fairly well. Speeds are almost as fast if not as fast as using the drives on standard M.2 slots. (Not tested with the faster NVME variant however.)

A neat little housing for your M.2 drives.
This neat little device comes with everything that you need to attach your M.2 drive to a USB 3.0 port on your system. For your convenience this housing is shipped disassembled so be careful where you open it, some of the parts are quite small and there are no spares. The instruction booklet assumes that you receive the drive casing assembled so turn on to the bit that starts showing you how to re assemble it with the drive fitted if you happen to need guidance. Once you have fitted the support pillar for the drive in the required place slide the circuit in under the holes that the front panel screws go it. do up the screws and connect the supplied USB 3.0 A to micro B cable. Plug in and you drive should be immediately detected. Easy Peasy. There is one little fly in the ointment though and that is that as far as I can tel from testing this device is USB 2.0 rather than 3.0.

Great item. Does what it is supposed to!
Works perfectly. Used it (along with Samsung’s migration software downloaded from Samusung’s site) to clone my Dell Latitude M.2 SSD drive to my new Samsung M.2 Evo 850 SSD.Without the Samsung software any drive you insert into it and connect via the included cable is recognised as an external drive. Also surprised to see it has a 2 year warranty.Highly recommend.

Lasted 2 years…
Well built, aesthetically pleasing design, all good except it now frequently fails to read data from good SSDs. Just comes up with read error and so can no longer be trusted. Just outlasted the warranty and started to fail. It’s okay I guess but would not mind it to have lasted for at least another couple of years. Replacement won’t be a StarTech.

Parts missing, very disappointed.
Bought a cheapo M2 enclosure so I could resuse my M2 drive when I upgraded my laptop. It had overheating problems so I thought I’d best spen a little more and get a decent brand. Shouldn’t have bothered. The Startech case had the end plate missing so the M2 drive just falls out and there was also not securing screw to hold it to the motherboard. It arrived packaged really well in a good strong boax and a sealed anti static bag and this is what really annoyed me. The bag was sealed so the missing bits didn’t fall out, they were never in. Downright poor quality control.Buy something else!

Solid enclosure for M.2 SATA SSD
Can say Solid enclosure for M.2 Sata SSD, simple for using, opening, closing, installing, in comparing with 2.5″ hdd external enclosure by same supplier, this one is much better.

It works perfectly. Great deal. I used it in the upgrade process to install my new ssd drive. First I put my new larger capacity SSD into the startech enclosure and cloned my c drive to it. Then I replaced my old ssd with the new one and I have a new larger ssd. I would not have been able to do all that without the enclosure. Now my old ssd is in the enclosure and used as an external USB drive. Saved me some money and I end up with an extra external fast usb drive. The only thing that could be better is the way the enclosure holds the drive. I don’t know if there are enclosures that don’t require screws and you can just snap in and snap out like ram cards. This way is ok but I can imagine better. It’s still a five star product because it is not needed for continuous in/out drive replacement. And probably a fancier system would be more expensive.

Did exactly what I needed. I had an m.2 256GB Sata SSD (Micron 1100) that originally came with a laptop I put a Samsung Evo 960 500GB m.2 NVMe PCIe drive in. It was just sitting around and I was considering getting a SD card for another laptop, but the SD wouldnt be fast enough (write) for what I needed. This is smaller than an external pre-bought drive and based on the drive in it much faster than any SD card. Using this with a Dell i5379-5893GRY-PUS laptop and it works perfectly (granted im using Manjaro KDE Linux). Benchmarked the drive is doing about 450MB/s read and 400MB/s writes, which is what I expected to see from the specific drive I was using. The enclosure itself was well packaged, came with all the screws and a small screw driver along with the USB type A to B cable which is about 1ft long. Install was easy and once assembled seems very sturdy and well made.It does have a small indicator light on the end with the USB port, which is white in color and blinks on activity.I am very happy with it as I was able to take a SSD I had no other use for and turn it into a very fast, reasonably small external drive that wouldnt be a burden to carry around with the laptop while traveling.I primarily use it for KVM VM images/files that I do not use frequently. It worked perfectly for this letting me install Windows 10 within a VM in about 5 mins.
