Excellent little 5way Ethernet extender. NOTE power block not included.
Arrived in the top half of a ‘double height’ box. The lower contains a 1m long USB-C to standard usb power cable, the usual mini-leaflets but no charger. It’s rated at 5v, 0.55A so any old 1A usb power block will do the job.I found the cable a bit short to reach the charger in my nearest available mains socket. However since I needed to order up a charger, I ordered some 2m usb cables at the same time. The unit itself is a light plastic, which does mean Ethernet cables (which all plug into the same side) would tend pull the unit off the shelf. However I used it with my NAS boxes (to free up sockets on my main router) which have light/flat cables (see photo). One port has to be used as the ‘uplink’, which leaves 4 free, of which I plugged in my 3 NAS boxes thus ending with 1 spare. My NAS boxes are used for back-ups only and operated at 100mbs, so no problem with data rates. Might have been a different case if these were used as Media servers (but then you wouldn’t put them 3 ‘hops’ away from your TV/studio system 🙂 )Recommended.
5 Port Gigabit Switch Out Performs my Managed Switch
I have one room that has to have powerline adapters so my transfer speeds are nowhere near my network’s full potential. In this room, I have a TV and computer connected to the adapter via the Cudy 5-port switch. Previously I had a Netgear managed switch which did not perform as cleanly as the Cudy. I was not expecting to see any improvement but it did perform better than expected. What I like most about it is smaller than a full pack of cigarettes, truly compact, and only green lights so I hope this is not a deal breaker for you but this is great value for money. There are mounting holes on the reverse, I am going to fix it to my desk permanently for easy access and I like it more than my old switch plus it is paired with a Cudy router.
Superbly efficient and tiny 5 Port USB-C powered unmanaged network switch via Cudy
Superbly efficient Cudy 5 Port USB-C powered unmanaged network switchAs a fan and owner of several Cudy devices, and in the need once again of expanding my wired connections throughout my property for networking connectivity I had to give this awesome little network switch a try and happy that I did. This is a 5 port “unmanaged” network switch. 5 x 1GB ports total connections between devices in isolation (like an isolated home lab for instance), or in reality 4 attached devices if you plan on joining/sharing an existing wired network connection.Unmanaged in essence there are no smart network isolation, tagging or vlan’s in this device, nor would there be. This is a truly simple and small network switch to connect wired RJ45 connections, share this out and allow excellent connectivity, throughput and shared uplink speed to the connected devices.I also was super interested in this awesome little switch as this is a first for myself being fully powered by USB-C. Yes, USB-C.This got me thinking could I power this switch with my USB-C cable from my laptop, yes, could I power this with a standard USB power bank…. YES you can. No more tied to where you can use or power this device like most will have an external power plug that needs to be plugged in to work.I then tested this out using my laptop as well as USB Charger/Power Bank and it worked. This switch is very small but can support 5 x 1gb RJ45 connections, comes with a USB-A to USB-C cable to power the swich, and is backwards compatible with 10/100/1000mb connections. An overall outstanding little unmanaged switch that I would and have definitely recommended.
Cheap & cheerful intro to network switches for gigabit wired networks
I needed to expand my existing gigabit network to accommodate yet more devices.I connected this to the existing switch with a Cat 6 ethernet cable, and bingo, I had an additional four ports. Yes I know there are five ports on this, but you need one for your incomer. It’s light and compact, and also powered by USB-C rather than coming with the chunky wall-wart that comes with higher-spec metal-cased switches [and which takes up a spare mains socket]. You can just plug this into a multi-way USB-C charger, but it doesn’t come with USB-C charging cable, so you’ll need one of those.I haven’t noticed any drop in download speed or connectivity while using this at the far end of the network. It’s all plastic so probably won’t take kindly to being abused in the way the all-metal ones do [I try not to abuse my gear anyway]As other reviewers have pointed out, you can get a name-brand metal-cased one for around £8 more, but this is a cheap & cheerful step up from a simple, unpowered, ethernet splitter.
A simple, effective and well made product at a very competitive price
The switch comes in a shrink wrapped box, so you know its not pre-used. The box has an integral cardboard former and contains:– the switch in a soft plastic bag for protection- Leaflet showing the impressively large range of Cudy network products- Safety information sheet in multiple languages- Quick installation guide in multiple languages- USB A to USB C power lead of average quality with plastic cable coating and plastic plug bodies. About 1m in length. There is no mains adapter included as is normal these days. This is unlikely to be an issue as most users will have plenty of suitable power supplies. The advantage of being USB powered is that it can be run off a power bank if needed. The switch itself is very compact (fits in the palm of your hand) and is very light. The housing is plastic, but has a good quality look and feel to it. There are screw mounting holes underneath in case you need to fix it to a wall. There are 6 green LEDs, one indicates power, and the other 5 flash with network activity when a network cable is attached. These are bright enough to see in strong light conditions. In use, everything works as expected.Overall, this is a simple, effective and well made product at a very competitive priceHighly recommended.
Also kaum Verlust.
I was looking for some switch with USB C power to power it up from USB C power adapter to have it attached under my work desk. Small device, no issues with performance. Non manageable. Good for that price.
