LEARN HOW TO DESIGN ELEARNING THAT DELIVERS RESULTS (AND DOESN’T SUCK)!
When you’re tasked with creating your very first eLearning course, it can be hard (and downright scary) trying to figure out where to begin. You likely have a million questions running through your head. How do you plan your project and set it up for success? How do you collect learning content from your subject matter experts? Why do you need an eLearning storyboard, and how do you write one? How do you develop a prototype of your eLearning course? And, what the heck is a prototype anyway? When and where should you include interactivity? When should you let your SMEs review your course? And what’s a “SME” again? And what do you do when they don’t give you feedback?
Trying to get answers to all of these questions can quickly leave you saying to yourself, “I don’t think I’m cut out for this eLearning thing!” But, here’s some good news: you’re not alone! The truth is, most eLearning designers entered fell, stumbled, and dropped into the world of eLearning entirely by accident.

A must have for any Instructional designers or eLearning developers
Having read many books in this space, all of which are great, this is easily my favourite. After joining a new company, I wanted to implement a robust eLearning system that we could replicate going forward. This book offers precisely that. Tim Slade presents a fantastic step by step approach to structuring your eLearning project, which for me is a weaker side to my elearning, the project management side. I love the simplicity and the to the point approach. I managed to read it in 3-4 hours, but that in no way detracts from the book, and to me, adds even more; like elearning, it’s best to keep things to the point. An outstanding book if you want nuts and bolts of eLearning project management and how to structure the entire eLearning process. Design-wise it’s beautifully put together and aesthetically pleasing to read.Easily 5 out of 5.
The most useful, spot on and practical guide on the subject that I’ve found so far!
This book is AMAZING! It’s straight to the point and packed with actionable, practical and step by step advice. There’s no unspecific “general guidance”. Every word serves a purpose here. It’s very engaging and walks the reader through the whole journey of the eLearning Designer, providing invaluable insights at each stage. I very rarely leave reviews not to mention this positive but this book simply deserve it. After doing a ton of research I can say that this is hands down the best guide for getting into the field! You’ll be super happy with it, no doubt.
Becoming
A very good book. A great message and lots of knowledge and techniques needed to become and to get better as an E-learning designer.Going back to the message in this book. Like most ID or E-Learning Designers of my age and generation. These jobs did not exist. A lot of us fell or evolved into the role, so it is always great to hear other people’s stories that have familiarity about how they came into the role/field.The other great thing about this book is it is a great way to reconnect with the basics, if you have been in the role for a while a lot of these processes become automatic, or people who have recently started learning on the job probobly never had these basic to the theories behind creating good E-learning.I really enjoyed Tim Slade’s story. A lot of it does resonate with me. Great reminder of the basic theories and good helpful technical knowledge it Pro Tips.
Really helpful without being too techy!
This book was so helpful and easy to read. I finished it in just over 3 hours and I only sat down thinking I’ll just read thr first chapter or 2…I’ve been tasked with creating a strategy of how we will create new customer training materials as I can’t do it all alone. I panicked and had no idea where to start but had bits of the jigsaw in my head. This book confirmed my jigsaw pieces were correct and helped me shape and insert the missing ones. I now know exactly what to present to management!
Clear, Straight to the Point No Fluff
Loved this book by Tim. It covered the practical essentials of eLearning creation and some of the theories. It’s perfect for someone just starting out on the eLearning journey or for someone like me who just wanted to double-check their processes are as lean and efficient as they need to be. I’m about to roll out a new process for eLearning creation in my organisation and this gave me the input I needed to make it robust.
Simple but very informative!
Alot of effort went into the graphic design on this, hence the use of space on the page. It does seem pretty effortless to read but at the same time gives some very worthwhile steps in eLearning design, for the novice and the more experienced among us.
Excellent Resource with Clear and Concise Ideas
This book is a must for anyone in eLearning. It is an excellent resource for both beginners and advanced eLearning designers. The clear and concise approach allows the reader to digest the information and apply the methods described instantly to any project.Thank-you for sharing your knowledge and enhancing the world of eLearning.
Nutshell
This gave me exactly what I was wanting and expecting – a quick run -through of the whole process from someone who’s been there. Clearly written, fast paced, with helpful examples all the way.
volevo approfondire e soprattutto sistematizzare le conoscenze riguardo l’instructional design e ho trovato in questo libro ottimi spunti e chiarezza espositiva, consilgiatissimo
Nicely made, straight to the point, easy to read.As a beginner in it, I really appreciated the Pro Tip information!
Highly recommend for anyone who wants to get into or refresh their e-learning design and development skills
This book is a fun, easy read that walks you through the eLearning development process. You’ll learn about task analysis, holding a kick-off meeting, prototyping, and so much more. Tim defines common terms for you and uses lots of illustrations to explain topics. It’s a great overview for any beginning instructional designer, regardless of what type of training you’re going to create.
This book delivers what is expected. Serves as a handbook to those who aren’t quite experienced in E-learning.It gives you enough confidence to take up new projects / assignments.
