Does what it says on the tin. Happy with the purchase.
Very good brand trustworthy and with reasonably priced screen connectivity solutions. This is the second purchase for a different setup and the twin HDMI adapter works perfectly.Better than my docking station that recently gave up the ghost.
Good product: does what it says if you do what they say. The USB connection is not optional!
I bought this 8 years ago, thinking I will need it and eventually stored it in its box because I found another simpler way to go. 8 years later I need it and pull it out and struggle because I assumed (without reading the now lost manual) the DP port was the only one needed, and you need to plug in both cables, DP and USB (for power presumably – guessing).Works on Windows OOTB with just organisation via display settingsWorks on Linux MINT OOTB with some minor struggles with the display settings and the setup is solid.Works on Linux Debian 12 OOTB with extremely hard tweaking with the display settings and the setup is fragile.Startech claim windows only for this device, so I think in 8 years the FOSS community have done great work.Glad i bought it. With this I now have a poor mans 3 Monitor KVM switch working from a 1 Monitor KVM switch using the monitor port buttons. More work but it works. My Laptop mHDMI -> KVMThis device -> DP on 2 side monitors. My Mac HDMI -> KVMMac has a USB version of this -> HDMI on the 2 side monitors.Saved me hundreds.
Works with SP3 + 3 Monitors.
I was sceptical about this device after some of the reviews here and on the star tech forum. I was using a full tower desktop with a triple DP graphics card running the Samsung MD230X3 Eyefinity screens:https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003NAL4UO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I bought the Surface Pro 3 a year or so ago and I wanted to dump the desktop and run all my work from one device.I’m now running the MST Hub off the SP3 dock DP port. It absolutely works, it took a bit setup and monitor configuration to get all three screens working properly and in the correct order. I can get the maximum resolution that my screens can handle but those of you using 4K screens will not get max resolution across all three.I can just pop the SP3 into the Dock and all three screens become active whilst the SP3 screen goes blank. When I need to leave the office I just take it out of the dock and everything resumes as normal on the device.Sound still plays through the SP3 and the attached keyboard works, in fact the screen is still responsive to touch but I don’t recommend doing that.If I could be picky the only improvement I would make is the length of the micro DP cable coming out of the hub. its quite short and when you have 3 heavy full DP cables plugged in you are limited on desk space at the back of the dock. Once or twice it’s just pulled itself out of the port slightly causing a screen or two to go blank. For me, this device combined with the SP3 is brilliant.
This updated product now works well with SP3 dock!
I bouight this together with two “Cable Matters Gold Plated DisplayPort to DVI Cable 2 Metres” for my Surface Pro 3 with docking station after a lengthy live chat with the StarTech customer support who informed me:”[the StarTech 1.2 Mini DisplayPort to Triple Head product] was [recently] upgraded with better compatibility with the Surface Pro 3 and other devices.””The easiest way to tell if you have the new model is by checking the label on the bottom of the unit. The new models will have a QR Barcode, and a number “4320” above it. If you are not familiar with the QR Code, those are the square pixilated barcodes. The models without the 4320 are the older version. If you do purchase it from a reseller, and are having issues with output on the Surface Pro 3, please don’t hesitate to contact us! We have been able to replace the old model with the newer version for customers affected.”I’ve had it for a few weeks now, and all working well.
Cuts out quite a lot
This connects my 2 screens to my surface pro 6 laptop. It works most of the time but there are occasions (at least a few times per day) that both or one of the screens goes black. It takes a few seconds to come back on, but it is annoying when this happens. Frustrating when you’re in the middle of a teams call and the screen goes blank. I have tried other splitters and this seems to be the best I’ve had.
Works great with 3x monitors on my MSI GS70 2QE.
The only way this thing could be better is if it was powered by USB instead of needing an extra power brick, but honestly – I can’t fault it.I’ve got it plugged into a single Mini-DP output on my MSI GS70 2QE Stealth Pro, and to it I have connected 3 monitors using DisplayPort -> HDMI cables. All 3 displays run at 1920×1080 at 60hz without any problems. Each display appears as a separate display, rather than as one large display (the drivers on this hardware give me the option to be one large display, but that’s not something inherent to this product)If you’ve got a laptop or tablet with a Mini DisplayPort 1.2 or above and want 3 external displays, this is the way to go. On most such devices the internal display gets disabled but that’s fine in this case.
Unlike advertised, this does not work properly with a Surface Pro 3.
Unlike advertised, this does not work properly with a Surface Pro 3. Even a factory fresh Surface Pro 3 with all Microsoft updates installed.I’m connecting two monitors to the hub via DisplayPort, and this works ok, until you disconnect the Surface Pro 3 from the hub, and then reconnect, or until you put the Surface Pro in sleep or power down and then start it again. Then it will fail to find all monitors, or occasionally give the Windows blue screen of death. Even a reboot, or unplugging everything and restarting doesn’t always resolve this issue. So it’s very frustrating .Startech support asked me to replace the unit, which I did, but the same issues with the replacement. Many other Surface Pro 3 users also report the same issue with this hub. Google “Surface Pro 3 external monitor / display port issues” for a thread on the Microsoft forum.
fantastic and reliable product and brand, does the job.
Didn’t work for me. Apparently it can’t draw enough power from the laptop for my 2 gaming monitors which led to my monitors flickering on and off. Might be ok for other monitors or even a single. Not sure.
Volle Kaufempfehlung meinerseits.
After seeing all of the hit and miss reviews on Amazon.com’s review section I was hesitant to buy it. I can probably safely assume this is the version 2. It works perfectly though, been about a week now running 3 identical new LG IPS displays I got on Black Friday. It’s not being run off of a Surface Pro 3 like almost every one that bought it however. Not a single hitch to be seen so far including waking from sleep, startup from shutdown, monitors being turned on or off while in use. I’m also running 3 full display port to hdmi adapters because my monitors are lower end IPS and only have HDMI and VGA. This is another factor that could have led to failure to run this hub properly but it’s handling it like a champ. This is all on Windows 10 as well. I’d like to think the issues other users had have more to do with their hardware or other factors because I haven’t experienced a single problem that was mentioned. I feel it was well worth the money and would recommend it. If it’s possible to edit a review, I’ll update it if it does give me problems.Edit: Almost 1 year has passed with it. Absolutely no problems, it runs flawlessly. Thought for sure by now I’d have issues with it but it’s doing well.
