Pokémon Legends: Z-A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition An ambitious new adventure set in Lumiose City awaits in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in late 2025. Explore the city, unravel its secrets and battle Pokémon like never before! An urban redevelopment plan is underway in Lumiose City! The goal: to turn it into a place Pokémon and people can truly share. Shortly after arriving, you’ll choose from one of these partner Pokémon to accompany you on your journey – Chikorita, Tepig or Totodile. Together, you can explore the streets of this vast city or visit Wild Zones – habitats where you’ll encounter wild Pokémon. To catch them, aim carefully and throw a Poké Ball or take them on with the help of the Pokémon on your team. For the first time ever, Trainers and their Pokémon will move around and take action in real time during battles. Pokémon will unleash their moves when their Trainers command them to. In addition to type matchups, there will be new mechanics to consider, such as the precise timing for swapping out your Pokémon or using moves, the different lengths of time moves will take to launch, and how big an area the moves will impact. In Lumiose City, Pokémon can go beyond Evolution by undergoing Mega Evolution! When a Trainer’s Key Stone resonates with the Mega Stone held by their Pokémon, the Pokémon will do more than just change shape and size – it will unlock a new level of power, which could turn the tide of battle!

Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition
okémon Legends: Z-A on the Nintendo Switch 2 raises the bar for both Pokémon games and open-world RPGs, delivering a thrilling, innovative experience that successfully blends nostalgia with fresh mechanics and technical polish.Visuals and PerformanceThe graphics on Switch 2 are absolutely stunning, with high-resolution textures, lifelike lighting, and fluid animations that bring the urban Lumiose City setting to life in unprecedented detail. Whether exploring alleyways, iconic landmarks, or natural outskirts, every location feels vibrant and distinct. The improved hardware ensures smooth performance, with seamless transitions between areas and no noticeable dips in framerate during exploration or epic Gym battles.Story and GameplayThe storyline is deep and engaging, centering on a dynamic, futuristic vision of the Pokémon world where Mega Evolutions return and player choices actually influence the fate of Lumiose City. The new mission structure keeps gameplay varied and engaging, weaving together classic catch-and-battle gameplay with fresh puzzles, innovative traversal mechanics, and urban encounters. The in-depth side quests reward exploration, and the integration of classic and new Pokémon delivers an incredible sense of discovery. The return of Mega Evolutions is handled perfectly, adding layers of strategy and spectacle to both wild and trainer battles.Mechanics and FeaturesThe revamped catching system—now allowing stealth-based and dynamic city encounters—provides a satisfying challenge for series veterans while remaining intuitive for new players. Customization options are vast, allowing true expression through your trainer’s appearance and a wide variety of outfits inspired by both Kalos traditions and futuristic design.Multiplayer modes shine with expanded co-op play, trading, and city tournaments, all running smoothly and adding to the game’s replayability and sense of global community.Sound and AtmosphereThe soundtrack is lush, perfectly capturing the pulse of a city alive with adventure, while ambient urban and wild Pokémon sounds foster immersion. Voice acting (for key characters and story moments) is a welcome addition and a first for the franchise, bringing emotional depth and realism to pivotal scenes.Overall ImpressionPokémon Legends: Z-A is simply a masterpiece—imaginative, content-rich, and technically superb. Whether reliving old memories, forging new friendships, or pushing strategic mastery to its limit, every aspect of the adventure feels rewarding. This is a must-have title for both long-time fans and newcomers, and it sets a new gold standard for Pokémon and the genre as a whole.

Very enjoyable from a fan of the older games
I have been playing Pokemon games since the red and blue era and have played all mainline games apart from Sun and Moon. I have always enjoyed the classic game play, however dated it may now be. The Legends series seems to be shaking things up a bit and Legends Z-A is no exception. For me this game is a five star experience because it ticks the right boxes but it might not be the same for everyone.I love the roaming around the city whilst many would complain that the world is too small. I enjoy the verticality whilst also playing in a game world that isn’t too big which for me I feel too many games are these days. The new battling mechanic is, in my opinion, a really fresh take on Pokemon battles. Moving around in the battle to better position your Pokemon but to also help them dodge moves is really fun, especially in online multiplayer battles. Some people may complain of game length / post game. I am more than happy with game length, I have finished the main story, done a fair portion of collectable and still have plenty of side quests to do within a total of 30 hours. That is a nice length of game in my opinion as time seems to constantly be harder to make for games. If you are a Pokemon fan, give it a go if you can, especially for a shake up on the old formula.

Give it a chance: Pokémon Legends Z-A is its own game
TL:DR – this is a fun game and requires giving a chance, but the main thing to remember is this is NOT your standard Pokémon game. If you are judging it as such, you will be disappointed.Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a fresh game in the Pokémon lineup, and whereas not perfect, I have thoroughly enjoyed playing it. If anything, it’s a Nintendo side-hustle rather than a mainstream Pokémon game, and it should be viewed in such a way.Is this game as strong as Pokémon Legends: Arceus? No. Is it trying to be? No. It would seem people are getting the wrong end of the stick with this game, where its primary focus is not on an entirely open-world setting, with lots of Pokémon and outbreaks and the ability to farm shiny Pokémon like it’s going out of fashion. This game is designed to be more story-centric (expanding on the original Pokémon X/Y storyline), focus on character development, and to explain a bit more of the lore around mega evolution. It also puts a lot of emphasis on exploration in the wild areas, as well as just relaxing with your Pokémon, getting some good screenshots, perhaps a bit of shopping for a new outfit.Let’s also mention that on the Switch 2, the performance is almost perfect, with only a couple of hitches during my play time on it. It also runs very stable on the original switch, albeit at a lower framerate and with reduced graphics, but still perfectly playable. It’s not a game focused on graphics, so if you’re judging it on that rather than the gameplay, you will again be disappointed.Don’t get me wrong, there are some empty spaces with not an awful lot in there, the map isn’t particularly big and the game does hold you hand perhaps a little too much, but overall it is a solid and enjoyable game, and I think it has given the grounds for the next legends game to be something truly special.

Great combat, overall atmosphere isnt strong though but the gameplay itself is still fun
It has its issues but most games do these days, really enjoyable experience for the most part but it really could do with some voice acting or at least some squabble chatty sounds whilst the NPC’s are talking just to liven things up a little

Grafisch kein Weltwunder aber Gameplay macht mega Spass
