Does what it says on the tin
This is a simple product that does its job perfectly. It fits a 6-outlet Belkin E-Series power strip just right and is invisible from above the desk. I think it’s slightly overpriced, but on balance worth the cost over competitors for the quality finish and the fact you can screw the mounting brackets on the underside of a desk first and slide & lock the tray on afterwards which greatly helps with fitting.
An easy to fit neat solution for storing cables/plugs under a table/desk surface.
It doesn’t matter how hard I try to keep things neat in my office, the plethora of cables and plugboards is a constant problem for me. The D-Line under-desk tray is very useful in keeping at least some of the clutter contained and safely off the floor. In the packet you get the metal tray, two end brackets for hanging the tray, a couple of screws and a double sided adhesive pad. In addition the user instructions are printed onto a card that also has template holes cut into it. The template holes are surprisingly useful and help to locate the tray accurately. You have the option to screw the brackets to the underside of your table/desk, or use the double-sided pad to adhere the brackets… or I guess you could do both if you are determined it’s never going to move! I elected to just use the two screws to fit my tray and it seemed fine. It’s a quick and simple job to simply place the card template where you’d like the tray to be positioned, then I used the two small holes that are cut into the card template to accurately mark and bodge the surface so that I could screw into it to fix the two brackets. After that you simply pop on the tray, with the hooks on the brackets slipping through to support the tray in a ‘cradle’ fashion. It doesn’t take long and I am very pleased with the result – I now have the trailing plugboard sat safely off the floor and held on the underside of the piece of furniture, out of the way. This product retails for just under £16, so I don’t think that it’s particularly marvellous value for money for a few pieces of metal. Having said that it does work very well and I am delighted with it. If it was a little cheaper I would not hesitate in giving it 5 Stars but have deducted one star because I think it could be a little cheaper. It works very well though.
Cable tray
Very good product. Initially ordered 2, then decided to order 2 more to get a really nice tidy finish under the desk.
Ok, but limited
The good:The instructions sheet on this product is neat and includes acts as a guide sheet for correctly spacing screw holes. The item design makes installation fairly quick and easyNot so good:My product arrived without either the screws or the adhesive pads. This was a little frustrating as I had to hunt for screws of a suitable length. The main issue with this product is that is is more like a suspended tray and less like a cage. Whilst this gives easy access to plugs, it doesn’t really hold anything in place. This isn’t great if you want to take your wires. Some rival products have a raised side to hold things in place and/or side notches to route cables through but this has neither.Overall:I’m a little disappointed with this item and may need to replace it with a more conventional alternative but it will likely be decent for other people’s needs (providing the fittings are included in the packaging).
Adhesive not strong enough and not adapter friendly
I get the idea behind this cable management kit and was very interested to use it for my home office desk.Unfortunately, I had two major issues with this which made it not usable for the intended purpose. First, the adhesive is not strong enough. I definitely did not want to screw this on to protect my desk but with the adhesive option, the extension cord wouldn’t stay stable for long. I am using a 5-port extension cord and the width and length seem okay but apparently not the weight. It came off after a few hours, and again after reinstalling it.The second issue is to do with the height of the suspenders. If using an adapter to connect non-UK plugs the height is not enough. I have a soundbar which has an EU 2-pin plug so I am using an adapter and the height of this tray is not enough, it was hitting the bottom of the desk and was difficult to move around as a result. So this tray didn’t really work for me. It is a good idea but needs a better design.
Out of sight
If you’re like me you probably have several extension cables tucked furniture or trailing underneath. Rendering them either unreachable or constantly under your feet. This cable management solution from D-Line allows you to mount a typical inline extension underneath a desk. Making it tidier and more accessible. The tray comes shrink wrapped with a card inlay that not only contains the instructions, but also can be used as template for piloting the mounting holes. The tray itself is made from metal and is painted black. The finish is pretty good and the metal surprisingly thick. I was expecting a much thinner piece of stamped metal. Mounting is done via two screws or adhesive pads. The tray is big enough to potentially accommodate larger inline extensions or inline PSU units. My main complaint is the lack of any hooks or guides to mount ties or route cables. They tend to end up hanging out the end or over the top. This can be sorted easy enough with other solutions but it would have been nice to have seen that included.A well made solution to cable management that’s fairly easy to install. It would be nice if the designed in some guides and hooks for ties but they can be added.
