The updated edition of the classic visual manual for troubleshooting PC hardware problems. Morris Rosenthal creates a visual expert system for diagnosing component failure and identifying conflicts. The seventeen diagnostic flowcharts at the core of this book are intended for the intermediate to advanced hobbyist, or the beginning technician. Following a structured approach to troubleshooting hardware reduces the false diagnoses and parts wastage typical of the “swap ’till you drop” school of thought. Flowcharts include: Power Supply Failure, Video Failure, Video Performance, Motherboard, CPU, RAM Failure, Motherboard, CPU, RAM Performance, IDE Drive Failure, Hard Drive Boot and Performance, CD, DVD or Blu-ray Playback, CD or DVD Recording Problem, Modem Failure, Modem Performance, Sound Failure, Sound and Game Controller Performance, Network Failure, Peripheral Failure, SCSI Failure, and Conflict Resolution. Computer Repair with Diagnostic Flowcharts is used as a classroom text in colleges and technical schools and by the U.S. government for training forensic technicians. It’s also a favorite reference with consumers and technicians all over the world.

Very good book
I had done an computer maintenance course 13 years ago my tutor recommended this book and used some of the pages as handouts. Has helped me with troubleshooting. It could do with updating for modern computer technology.
As described.
Very easy to follow the flow charts. The large A4 format makes it easy to read. Very comprehensive.
It’s a useful book
Reasonably useful book, it is getting somewhat out of date now. I have a few tips for fault finding additionally to the book as I had 2 weeks of training faulting down to chip level when I was in a workshop repairing teleprinters and CDOS PC’s,(That’s how long ago it was!) after all that training, the quickest way to find what is faulty is (a) smell the boards, (b) look for capacitors with convex tops, means they have likely blown (c) to localise chip, or even board if you are lazy, get a can of freezer spray, as the majority of faults are heat related. When the faulty component is sprayed there is a good chance it will work for a short period.Obviously substituting a board is much easier, the above is for if you don’t have boards to substitute

Great Book, this book is recommended by Microsoft for anyone who wants to become a tech, it covers hardware issues and will be a valuable addition to your study resources.
Five Stars
highly recommend if your looking to become a tech engineer
Five Stars
Great product, highly recomended
Good flowcharts
A fairly simple book which provides some good and (mostly) clear flowcharts for troubleshooting typical PC problems. Sometimes it does seem to go a little “round the houses” but the logic is pretty good. A useful resource for anyone who repairs computers.
Computer repair book
The book is okBut the original order was advertised for a Laptop repair book this book is more geared to desktops. This one is not bad and useful
excellent book. 100% recommended.
Although perhaps the average “Joe” could get by using this book, it leaves a lot of answers unsaid. This is because the tech using this manual is assumed to have some experience in troubleshooting. Maybe he’s having a bad day, week, or a chassis, problem, this book is meant to help that person”see the tree for the forest”.It covers all areas of the chassis in a logical order, and when multiple problems are the order of the day, it will help you to “weed” thru in a fast and logical order.
Quite helpful, both in specific tips, and in general approach. I have kept it in my pc repair bag for my business for 5 years. It’s still in there when I arrive onsite to a customer’s location.
good stuff thanks.
This is not a book for those new to computers and/or computer repair. There’s a LOT of technical terminology that I had to look up, but I’m don’t consider myself a computer technician either. The flowchart layout is very logical and seems to address a wide variety of problems, though, thankfully, I haven’t had a need to test it as of yet.
