DO YOU STRUGGLE WITH YOUR WORK/LIFE BALANCE?
Do you like the idea of running a lifestyle business, rather than putting in 15-hour days, day-after-day?
If so, then this is the book for you.
John Lamerton used to work 100+ hours a week, as he strived to become the next Alan Sugar or Richard Branson.
Then he had kids, and everything changed – he now works part time, 20 to 25 hours per week as a self-styled “lazy entrepreneur”.
If you want to grow your small business, without having to learn complex marketing strategies, and without being told to simply “work harder than everyone else”, then “Big Ideas… for Small Businesses” could be the “lightbulb moment” you’ve been waiting for…
This book is a collection of the lessons, failures and successes that John now uses to coach and mentor hundreds of small business owners, teaching them to think bigger, work less, and design their business around the lifestyle they want.
SOME OF THE “BIG IDEAS” THAT YOU WILL DISCOVER:
-Why the “Dragons” hate lifestyle businesses, and why you should love them
– How almost anyone could become a millionaire in their lifetime, given just £200 a month.
– Why John blames Richard Branson for his early failures
– How to get clarity on your business strategy, and bring that into your daily routine.
– How to sell a dozen eggs for over £500
– The ONE thing that truly transformed John’s business
– How to find, hire, (and fire!) your first employee.
– Why every Luke Skywalker needs a Yoda.
– EXACTLY how he made over £100k from ONE marketing campaign.
– The five magic ingredients for success in almost any given field.
JOHN LAMERTON is a lazy entrepreneur and investor. He mentors fellow ambitious lifestyle business owners, teaching them how to design their business around their lifestyle. He’s the co-host of the Ambitious Lifestyle Business podcast, and a regular on BBC Radio. John is a down to earth businessman who is candid about the mistakes he made and why he believes he made them.Buy this book if you want to have a lifestyle business that gives you a better work/life balance…

Packed with ideas for business – a great read or listen!
I read the Kindle book a while ago and took away some great ideas – I included one in my own book – Positive Paths to Wellbeing. Thank you John. What I love about the book is that it is packed with practical ideas. I don’t like a book that takes one idea and labours the point and this book certainly does not do that. I have been listening to the audio version as I needed a bit of motivation to do some more marketing and I have been fired up by it. I have now ordered the paperback version so I can write in it. So what more can I say – I have the ebook, the audio and the paperback. A ringing endorsement of how this book can give you lots of ideas for your business and with humour and honesty too. 5 stars!
Empowering book
I found John gave a really insight into a lifestyle business. It gave me inspiration to just get going and learn on the way. I feel that I can jump in and out of the book for tools which will take me forward.Worth the read for self development.
A business book packed with pragmatic advice
Having read a lot of business books, I particularly enjoy reading books that get straight to the point to give you their value, rather than losing the advice in 10-20 pages of waffle. John’s writing style is very conversational and direct, making this book very easy to read. You’ll quickly get lots of value from reading the book that might take you 3-4 other books to give you the same value.John’s focus is very much on an “ambitious lifestyle business” – creating a business that meets your needs, as well as allowing you to have a life, be a parent, be a husband, and have fun along the way.As a seasoned business owner, and having had the same mentor or two as John over the past few years, it’s refreshing to get John’s perspective on what he’s learnt over his last 20 years of business. I picked out quite a few nuggets of value from the book (as you’ll see by the tabs in the photo)… including a shift in perspective about having a very simple 1 week breakdown of what needs to happen, to doing a marketing debrief after a big campaign to pick out your lessons. I particularly liked the story of the farmer selling eggs for £240 a year… (you’ll read it about half-way through the book). It’s refreshing to have whole sections focussed on health, family and rest… in a business book, that’s exceptionally unusual. Unlike other business authors who focus on hustle, John’s style is very much about doing the 20% that gets 80% of the results, and do something revolutionary and actually SEE your wife and kids.If you’re someone who struggles to read many business books, but you want to read something that inspires you and teaches you a few things, then this is your book. It’s a really easy read, packs plenty of interesting stories and value. And it’s real. A real everyday person. Something that I know John is very proud to call himself. Thanks John, really enjoyed reading your book!
Good book
It’s good, and it’s encouraging, and it’s pleasant to listen to, but I’m not sure why everyone is raving about it quite so much.
Down to Earth, Practical Advice
Really enjoyed “Big Ideas for Small Businesses” – it’s full of down-to-earth, practical advice that actually makes sense. Easy to read, no fluff, and loads of useful tips I can actually use. Definitely worth a look if you run a small business.
No fluff, enjoyable, easy-to-absorb business advice
From the get-go, it’s clear that this book is going to be an easy read, and not a meandering string of concepts that never quite seem to get pulled together. It’s sharp, directed, concise, humourous and, above all, human: written by a man who obviously understands the rigours of marrying the challenges of creating and running a small business with a proper focus on family and life beyond work.Chock-full of ideas laid out and explained in a manner that promotes easy absorption and practical use, this book gave this seasoned business owner a few ‘ah-ha’ moments. There’s an old saying about small business that many an owner will relate to, “You start a business to give you more life, and it ends up taking it from you”.Sadly, this is the place many of us find ourselves in at some point in our business journey.Reading and applying the ideas in this book can categorically help you avoid that fate.An excellent book and one, I’m sure, John is rightly very proud of!
Good and useful book
Good and useful book, some really intuitive ideas. As I have already told John, it is a shame about the unnecessary swearing.
For all ambitious business owners this book is for you !!
Truly inspirational! John Lamerton has a way with words that gets the point across in a way that is easy to understand yet with a flair only John has. Giving across all of his big ideas 💡 and also some amazing tips – this book is a definate read for new all businesses. I wish I had read this before starting my first business as would have done things so differently! This is the first book I have read from cover to cover in a couple of years – couldn’t put it down (usually use audible!)Was lovely to see my testimonial in the book – as one of the first one percent members I have learnt so much from this man. He has such a wealth of experience and great perspective on things and keeps me accountable! This book is awesome – very down to earth and personable yet a fountain of knowledge and experience. Totally recommend this book to anyone thinking of starting a business or those looking for new ideas within their business. Jo Lines Director of Ambition Property Group & Novahomes Lettings Ltd
The book is an apt guide for small businesses providing simple and basic pragmatic tools and tactics to propel growth of small businesses. The environment we hang around with matters significantly. Five basic ingredients are the building blocks of business and they are Goals, Desire, Knowledge, Environment and Action. Smart goals are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely. We need to block out time for important tasks first. It is good to get mentors who can provide clarity, advice and stimulate us when necessary. We need to be both efficient and effective. Desire for change can lead to big ideas. Knowledge allows us to reverse engineer other people’s success and give a blueprint for us to follow. It is smart to outsource things we do not have to do, focus on what we are best at. Always good to keep collecting, buying, building, acquiring and sweating assets. Pricing is not the only weapon in the marketing battle, touch and frequent follow up is important with customers. Do business like an investor and invest like a businessman, generate multiple streams of income.Greatly appreciate the string of illuminating Big Ideas sprayed all over the book to enlighten the reader on how to make small businesses grow
A very clear and well defined set of rules and values for a successful mindset.Great job, John.
After living through the same Google gold rush I had some great flashbacks and cold sweats reading John’s story! 100% recommended read to all small business owners needing a kick in the butt.
Great read. I like this guy’s positive attitude.
